Chateau wood flooring stain

The wood floors have a first coat of General Finishes Cherry Oil Stain. Originally I expected I would need 2 coats, I seem to recall doing 2 coats in the French Country. I placed the flooring in the house and am thinking about leaving one coat, and just finishing with poly sealer. They are actually still drying and it gives me time to consider.

I rather like the lighter look. 

Chateau Wallpaper and Wood Floors

 I took the plunge and wallpapered with the new Les Chinoiseries wallpaper I proposed in the last post. The quality of the paper is as promised - thick but not too thick. I completely forgot to spray with sealer before applying paste, as I always do with Itsy Bitsy Minis and Brodnax. Thankfully I had no problems with bleeding even when I wiped off excess paste. 

The upstairs hall got papered as well, sort of a marbled paper that blended with the foyer paper where it met in the stair opening. I was originally planning on papering it before I glued the floor in. Somehow I forgot that was my plan, and then had to adjust my papering plan so I could accommodate the height difference where the floor ended. 

Looking ahead, I pulled out the crown molding that I have been planning on using, and placed it up against the ceiling in the dining room. What to do with the fireplace chimney breast and the crown - to cut and miter all around or just butt it up to the chimney breast. The problem is that there is a small step inset on each side. If I do miter, I have to miter to the deepest spot and that's that.

Living room, dining room, master bedroom, 2nd bedroom and 2nd floor hall wood floors are all done, each strip cut, and attached to a posterboard base. They are ready to be stained with cherry stain.

Third Floor Sitting Room

For lack of a better name for this room, its called the sitting room. No wallpaper yet, but flooring is done.

I ended up with a nice neutral paper here, and hung a Ni-Glo lamp in it.

Second floor bedroom

This room is set to be more gender neutral, not sure if its a boy's room or just a guest room. But it has come together nicely. I snagged another great dressed bed - one that works nicely here. Here's what's interesting about this bed - the paisley duvet is very similar to a real life duvet I had for my own master bedroom!

You will notice flooring done, braided rug, baseboard, and some other furniture from shows and stores.

Study

The study floor got ruined when I tried to add a second coat of stain, so back to square one. I have had success with Brodnax parquet so I went that route. It turned out very nice, almost too shiny. 

Here you can also see the ceiling beams I put up, and baseboard I've cut. I decided white was too white for this room, so I went with a tan color. 

This picture shows the beams and crown and they are painted tan. You can see the lights I temporarily placed to get a sense of what the finished look will be. 

Recent work on the Thornhill

Meant to get a shot of the 3rd floor plaster walls. OK added this too...

In the meantime, here's the shots of the baseboard, the dry dining room tile and the stairs in process. And I ordered from Earth N Tree the 3/8 cherry stripwood for the 3rd floor. I'll take a picture of my template - its done with "For Sale" signs from a hardware store. See below.

I actually used these same signs for the ceiling 'template' that I attached my bead board to.
